My photographs are explorations of details on a surface. I get pulled in by something that demands a closer look. Through the camera lens I isolate an interesting texture, composition, or a surprising bit of color. The close up landscape has an abstract beauty and I look for details that have the power to stand on their own apart from the overall view.  Layers and scars from periods of weathering, deterioration, or repair reveal a history and I am also capturing a small piece of a surface at a particular moment before it transitions into something else. My editing process is minimal in an attempt to keep the images true to what I see through the camera and to maintain their simplicity.

I was born in Ft. Worth, Texas and  received a BFA from North Texas State University in 1984 with a concentration in weaving. My interest in textiles led me to visit Guatemala and its weavers and it was there that I began photographing beautifully colored and textured walls. As I continued to travel, walls, as well as other textured surfaces, held my attention.  After moving to Midcoast Maine in 2000, I found inspiration in the scarred hulls of fishing boats hauled out for winter repairs in a local boatyard. My work has been exhibited at the Forster Complex Gallery at Austin College in Sherman, Texas (solo-2014), the Kefauver Studio and Gallery in Damariscotta, Maine (2017-2018), Triangle Gallery in Rockland, Maine (2023), and in private collections. I currently live in South Thomaston, Maine.
